Of course, I AM Organic® prefers to source its organic bananas as close to home as possible. Because good-quality bananas cannot be grown year-round in Europe, we source them from Central and South America. The climate there is ideal for bananas and the shipping route to the Netherlands is short and direct. In the Netherlands, we take the time to ripen the bananas very slowly, for an even more delicious flavour. An I AM Organic banana from Central and South America will be in your shop four weeks after it was harvested. Enjoy!
I AM ORGANIC FRUIT AND VEGETABLES ARE NOT ONLY DELICIOUS, BUT ALSO SUSTAINABLE. WE FOCUS ON PEOPLE AND PLANET. BY BUYING I AM ORGANIC PRODUCTS, YOU CAN EAT THE WORLD BETTER. TOGETHER, WE CAN ENSURE THAT WE CAN PASS ON THE EARTH TO FUTURE GENERATIONS IN A BETTER WAY.
Bananas grow in bunches high up in a banana plant. The leaves of the plant grow in a spiral. A banana plant of the Cavendish variety can grow up to three metres high and a bunch can weigh up to 50 kilos. It takes about nine months for a banana to mature and be harvested. The banana stem produces a bunch of bananas once only. To produce more bananas, the mother plant is cut off after a new shoot has formed, which will in turn form the next bunch.
BANANAS ARE NOT ONLY VERY TASTY, BUT ALSO HEALTHY. LIKE OTHER FRUITS, THEY ARE PART OF THE “EATING RIGHT PYRAMID”

Storage Tips
Nature has already beautifully packaged bananas in a peel. So you don’t need more.
The perfect storage temperature for bananas is 14.5˚ centigrade. The warmer it is, the faster your bananas will ripen.
If you want to ripen bananas faster, put them in a sealed plastic bag and leave them in a warm place.
During the ripening process, a banana gives off ethylene (a natural ripening gas). So watch out for the other fruit in your fruit bowl.
On the other hand, you can also make clever use of this by packaging other fruit together with your banana. Then the other fruit will ripen more quickly.
